The embattled National Youth Leader of the Labour Party (NYL-LP), Comrade (Engr) Eragbe Anslem has slammed the National Chairman of the Party over his purported suspension, asking him to rescind the illegal suspension within 72 hours.
According to him, “If this illegality, which contravenes the constitutional duties of the National Youth Leader and has now constituted an affront and embarrassment to the entire OBI-DATTI MOVEMENT is not rescinded, the Labour Party National Headquarters in Utako and the Mr Peter Obi
Presidential Campaign Organization Headquarters shall be subjected to Picketing,
Lockup and Lockout in Perpetuity from Wednesday 26th October, 2022 till
25th February, 2023.
Anslem maintained that the action of the National Chairman is in contradiction with the provisions and letters of the constitution of the party that as contained in ARTICLE 17 which deals with REMOVAL from OFFICES – (Page 31), which says
(ii): “Any other National Officer(s) of the party may be removed by 2/3 majority of the
votes cast by members at a convention or National Executive Council, (NEC)”.
To this effect therefore, the Youth Leader who is also the senatorial candidate of the party for Edo North Senatorial district, stressed that the NEC of the Party is not aware of any report of the disciplinary committee that Barr Jullius Abure illegally acted upon and neither was 2/3 majority of votes cast by NEC members nor him, as the National Youth Leader in attendance in such a NEC meeting.
Precise Post recalls that the party had accused the National Youth Leader of : convening illegal and unapproved youth summit; threatening the Deputy National Secretary; insubordination; illegal fund soliciting without approval and misrepresentating the ideology of the party and breached of constitution of the party.
In denying the allegations levelled against him and describing it as baseless, the National Youth Leader made reference to Article 14 of the LP constitution on POWERS AND FUNCTIONS OF OFFICERS (Page 26) (S-14) (page 30) which states that : NATIONAL YOUTH LEADER:
a- Shall be responsible for mobilization of Youths for the attainment of party
objectives. b- Initiate and Implement Strategic Programmes and Policies that would endear the party to Nigerian youth.
9c: National organizing Secretary shall liaise with the National Women and Youth Leaders for harmonization of programmes for attainment of party victory at all elections.
On the issues of fund raising referred to as an infraction he made reference to Page 28,
2- ARTICLE 9(3) MEMBERS OBLIGATION TO THE PARTY which states that:
vii- “Members are obliged to participate in the activities of the party e.g. Election
Campaigns, Rallies, Fund Raising. Functions and meetings.
The Youth Leader stated this in a letter to the party while responding to the sundry issues raised, a copy of which Precise Post is in possession of.
