Veteran Nollywood actress and family member, Rita Edochie, has fiercely defended May Edochie against online trolls who have been pressuring her to drop her estranged husband Yul Edochie’s surname.
In a strongly worded social media post that quickly went viral, Rita criticized those questioning May’s decision to retain the Edochie name despite her separation from the actor. She insisted that May would continue to bear the name “May Yul Edochie,” describing critics as idle and malicious.
“20 years of marriage is not 20 days,” Rita declared, adding, “If her name isn’t affecting your future, kindly face your front. She didn’t leave the marriage; her husband left to marry Mr Obasi’s wife. Go and ask Mr Obasi’s wife to drop the Edochie name instead.”
The actress also highlighted the irony of trolls targeting May while remaining silent about Yul’s second wife, Judy Austin, who also uses the Edochie surname. “No be the same Yul-Edochie Judy dey answer? Why Judy never blow since dem talk say the name carry grace?” Rita asked pointedly.
Fans and netizens praised Rita for standing by May, calling her words bold and refreshing. Social media user @officialblessingnwankwo1 wrote, “Queen May has GRACE. Love her, hate her, it doesn’t stop her from being blessed.” Another, @nwanyiomamooo, applauded Rita’s eloquence, saying, “I like you because of your command of the English language.”
Rita’s support for May comes shortly after the influencer and mother of three unveiled her new white Range Rover, which she celebrated on Instagram. Rita expressed gratitude to God for blessing May despite her trials and assured her followers that May’s divine grace would continue to frustrate her detractors.
