SEDC Holds Maiden Board Meeting, Commits to Stakeholders Engagement

ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – The South East Development Commission (SEDC) held its inaugural board meeting on February 13, 2025, in Abuja. This meeting marked the official commencement of the Commission’s activities, following the recent confirmation of its executive management and board members by the Nigerian Senate.

The SEDC is mandated to address the socio-economic challenges of the South East region by facilitating rapid and sustainable development. Its objectives include transforming the region into an economically prosperous, socially stable, ecologically regenerative, and politically peaceful zone through strategic policies, projects, and partnerships.

The confirmed executive management and board members of the SEDC are:

Dr. Emeka Worgu – Chairman

Hon. Mark C. Okoye – Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer

Sylvester Okonkwo – Executive Director, Corporate Services

Rt. Hon. Stanley Ohajuruka – Executive Director, Finance

Dr. Clifford Ogbede – Executive Director, Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Rural Development

During the meeting, the board outlined its strategic priorities, focusing on sustainable infrastructure development, economic empowerment, and regional collaboration. The aim is to create a stable and prosperous South East region. The board emphasized the importance of engaging with stakeholders, including state governments, traditional institutions, and the private sector, to ensure the successful implementation of its initiatives.

The Chairman, Dr. Emeka Worgu, expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to the development of the South East region and assured that the Commission would work diligently to fulfill its mandate. He also called for unity and cooperation among all stakeholders to achieve the Commission’s objectives.

The Managing Director/CEO, Hon. Mark C. Okoye, highlighted the Commission’s readiness to embark on key projects that would have immediate and long-term impacts on the region’s development. He reiterated the Commission’s dedication to transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness in all its operations.

The inaugural board meeting signifies a significant step towards addressing the developmental challenges of the South East region. The SEDC is poised to implement programs and projects that will enhance the socio-economic well-being of the people in the region.
