Abuja (Precise Post)  – The Managing Director of the Southeast Development Commission (SEDC), Mr. Mark Okoye, has reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to inclusive and impactful development in the Southeast region, highlighting the strides made in its first 150 days in office.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday after a meeting with the Senate Committee on the Southeast Development Commission at the National Assembly, Abuja, Okoye stated that the Commission has been focused on establishing a solid institutional and strategic foundation.

According to him, the past five months have been dedicated to crafting a comprehensive development framework that aligns with the aspirations of the Southeast people and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“In this short period, we’ve concentrated on building the institution, engaging with stakeholders across all levels, from state and local governments to the private sector, academia, civil society organizations, and even international development partners,” Okoye said.

He also revealed that the Commission has engaged with various development agencies operating in Nigeria to introduce the SEDC’s strategic plan and identify avenues for collaboration.

On funding concerns, Okoye dismissed any fears, stating that the 2025 budget implementation is expected to begin mid-year. He emphasized that effective governance goes beyond funding, relying instead on sound planning, stakeholder engagement, and institutional capacity.

“What we’ve done is focus on policy development, ensuring alignment with national goals, and gathering input from key stakeholders,” he said. “This groundwork is what determines long-term success. Visible projects and programmes will begin to unfold very soon.”

He assured Nigerians that the Commission is now well-positioned to commence the implementation of tangible projects aimed at addressing critical developmental needs in the Southeast.
