Abuja (Precise Post) – Former federal lawmaker that represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District at the 8th Assembly, Senator Shehu Sani has exposed the policy summersault and inconsistency of the All Progressives Congress-led federal government.

On the issue of on-going NIN registration, Shehu Sani said that if foreigners are obliged to register for National Identification Number (NIN), then it can’t be considered as ‘National Identity’ and that if all Nigerians must do it, then it’s needless allocating money for National Census.

Recalls that despite the ongoing NIN registration the federal government also allocated fund for National Census in the 2021 budget despite the paucity of fund staring the administration at the face.

He stated this on Saturday when he took to his twitter handle and tweeted:

“If foreigners are obliged to register for NIN then it can’t be considered as ‘National Identity’. And if all Nigerians must do it then of what use is allocating money for National Census?”

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari has now  approved N10 billion naira (about $US26m)

to prepare for a new census. The funding is for demarcating enumeration areas, with the demarcation scheduled
to be completed in 2021. It is therefore a good time to reflect on the past challenges in Nigeria so that the country can get it right this time. Population figures are the basis for distributing resources to sub-national governments. A consequence of an inaccurate census is that planning and programmes to use these resources aren’t based on evidence.(The Conversation, Dec 9, 2020).
