Abuja (Precise Post) – Senator representing Imo West in the ninth national assembly and former governor of Imo State Owelle Rochas Okorocha has cried out that the problem facing Nigeria in the area of security is spurred by hunger in the land and the failure to engage Nigerian youths who form more than seventy percent (70%) of the population.
Senator Okorocha expressed this view in his ongoing engagements with Nigerians in Diaspora as he continues to host Webinars to engage Nigerians in South Africa and across the America’s and Europe.
The Imo lawmaker who has been speaking on issues of national importance has encouraged Nigerian leaders to work with the youths across the divide to develop and own security apparatus that will best suit their different domains.
“Why I support National Dialogue is because we need to revisit our origin, where we all started from, the issue of Amalgamation was not done with a clear eye, it was a forceful merger done by Mrs Lugard. Lugard was a man who married in a hurry because of the frustration he was facing in divorce, he was sent to Nigeria to cool-off and he fell in-love with a woman and married her, that’s the Lugard that gave us a Nigeria without agreeing on the fact that we are different; the culture in the North and South are different, we are strange fellows and communication gap is bound to be” Okorocha stressed.
“There are some elements across the country that don’t want the unity of the country, the difference between the Igbo’s and Yoruba’s is like they are two children from the same father but with two different mothers, they hate each other but they will never kill each other, I was telling the Ooni of Ife this six months ago”.
“The major problem with Nigeria is communication, government is far away from the ordinary man, we need to engage them this importation of hundreds of millions of naira equipment will not solve the problem because in a nation of poverty, terrorism is inevitable. It is called ‘Hunger Terrorism’ is not real terrorism, we must engage these youths”.
“Before I became governor of Imo state, the state topped the ranks in kidnapping, through my community government council I engaged the community, through the Civil Guards the youths were made to take charge themselves and took care of their communities, that is what I mean by devolution of the security apparatus without leaving it in the Hands of the state or region”.
