ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Social activist Aisha Yesufu has called on Nigerians to prepare for the 2027 general elections as though the country has returned to the manual voting system of the past, urging voters to closely monitor the electoral process from polling units to the final declaration of results.
Yesufu, in a post on her X handle on Sunday, dismissed the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Result Viewing (IREV) portal as “cosmetic,” insisting that Nigerians should not rely solely on technology or trust the electoral umpire to protect the integrity of their votes.
“We have no business with IREV. It is cosmetic. We must approach the 2027 election as if it is manual. We are back to 2003!” she stated.
She urged voters to remain at their polling units for as long as necessary, including 48 to 72 hours, to ensure that every ballot cast is properly counted and accurately entered into the result sheet.
According to her, voters must closely monitor the counting process and ensure that figures recorded at polling units reflect the actual votes cast.
“We count and ensure each vote is counted and entered as voted. We do not allow so-called human error of votes not entered correctly. 160 cannot be zero!” she said.
Yesufu also urged election observers and voters to ensure that all unused ballot papers are properly cancelled and that polling-unit result sheets contain the correct figures before leaving the voting location.
“Our business is not to trust INEC,” she declared.
She further called for a coordinated system of monitoring that would follow the ballot boxes and result sheets through every stage of the collation process—from the polling unit to the ward, local government and state collation centres.
“At no time should we allow ballot boxes or result sheets to be out of our sight,” she warned.
The activist also advocated the deployment of representatives from the states to Abuja to monitor the final collation of presidential election results, saying Nigerians must remain engaged until the results are officially announced.
“From State collation centre we move to Abuja. Let states send some representatives to come meet us in Abuja and stake out where Amupitan will be collating the results from all over Nigeria,” she said.
According to Yesufu, electoral participation should not end with casting a ballot, arguing that voters have a responsibility to remain vigilant until their votes are accurately reflected in the final results.
“This election must be personal to everyone. If you vote and don’t wait for your results to be entered, then you merely did paper painting, not voting,” she said.
She also condemned electoral violence and called on families to caution members who may seek to disrupt the electoral process.
“As for those that do violence, let their families know it will no longer be business as usual. Let everyone call their children to order,” Yesufu added.
