ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Nigerians who are angry over the prevailing economic hardship necessitated by the anti-welfarist policies of president Bola Tinubu-led government have lambasted Bayo Onanuga over his remarks that Nigeria’s non-oil exports had hit a record $1.7 billion in first quarter of 2025, the highest in 49 years.
Bayo Onanuga, who is the Special Adviser (Information and Strategy) to President Tinubu had on Tuesday taken to his verified X account and said that Nigeria’s non-oil exports had hit a record $1.7 billion in first quarter of 2025, the highest in 49 years – adding that Cocoa and its derivatives accounted for 45 per cent of the lot. Products such as cashew nuts, sesame seeds, aluminium and copper ingots, soyabeans, and rubber also topped the list of exports.
Onanuga further quoted the Nigerian Export Promotion Council Executive Director, Nonye Ayeni, as saying that the value of non-oil exports recorded in the first quarter was 24.75 per cent higher than the corresponding value in the first quarter of 2024. She said the year-on-year increase was the highest since the council was created 49 years ago.
After making this claim few hours ago on his X account, X has been buzzing with diverse reactions from Nigerians. Some of these reactions are as follows:
Samuel Chijioke @Sirjokesinfo said:
“Lies from the pit of hell, where are those products coming from, is it the one that Fulani herdsmen are preventing farmers from going to their farms?”
“You guys should stop this propaganda and start saying the truth about the economy of Nigeria.
Tomorrow now, Tinubu will run to the World Bank and IMF to borrow money.”
