ABIA- Enyimba FC Chairman and former Nigerian international, Nwankwo Kanu, has joined millions across the world to felicitate Muslims as they celebrate 2025 Eid Kabir.
Kanu told newsmen on Friday in Aba that the festival provided an opportunity for Nigerians to show love, embrace peace and unity, and make sacrifices for a better nation.
While emphasising the spiritual significance of the celebration, he urged Muslims to reflect on the virtues of love, forgiveness, and devotion epitomised by Prophet Ibrahim.
“This holy season reminds us of the immense power of faith, sacrifice and obedience to God.
“As we celebrate, let us share love, forgive one another and uplift the less privileged.

IBADAN- Political leaders across party lines in Oyo State on Friday came together to observe the Eid-el-Adha prayers in an atmosphere of unity and mutual respect, setting aside their political differences.
The leaders, including top members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), converged at the Agodi Eid ground in Ibadan.
The political leaders exchanged greetings and prayed alongside Muslim faithful for peace and religious harmony.
Notable among them were the Oyo State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Adebayo Lawal, Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and former Senate Leader, Sen. Teslim Folarin.
Also present were Oyo State’s former deputy governors, Hazeem Gbolarumi and Amb. Taofeek Arapaja, including Sen. Kola Balogun, Abass Adigun and Chief Saheed Oladele.
Others are Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle, Alhaji Mojeed Olaoya, Chief Akinade Fijabi, Hon. Akeem Ige, Dr Nureni Adeniran and Chief Shina Alabi.
The Otun-Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, led traditional rulers, Ibadan traditional council members and the Mogajis to the praying ground.
Meanwhile, in his admonition, the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheikh AbdulGaniy Abubakry, emphasised the importance of unity, tolerance, and patience as the key virtues necessary for national development.
He urged Nigerians to uphold these values in their daily interactions, regardless of political, religious or ethnic differences.
Abubakry prayed for continued peace and prosperity in Nigeria, urging everyone to play their part in fostering unity and nation-building.

MAIDUGURI- Gov. Babagana Zulum and the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, joined hundreds of worshippers at the historic Shehu’s Palace in Maiduguri.
The prayer, which marked the commencement of the Eid festivities, was led by the Imam Idaini of Borno, Imam Shettima Mamman Saleh, at the Ramat Square on Friday.
In his sermon shortly after the prayer, Imam Shettima Mamman urged Muslims to emulate the spirit of sacrifice as demonstrated by Prophet Abraham.
The cleric called on philanthropists and well-meaning individuals to extend support to internally displaced persons and returnees by giving them sense of belonging and inclusion.
He, however, offered special prayers for lasting peace and stability in Borno and the country at large.
“We must continue to live in peace with one another and seek Allah’s mercy in all our dealings,” the Imam said
The governor had earlier in his Sallah message called for renewed unity, prayers, and commitment to overcome the security challenges in the state.
“I extend my warm felicitations to the Muslim Ummah on the occasion of Eid-al-Adha, a festival of sacrifice.
“Let us embody the virtues of patience, charity, and obedience to Almighty Allah, as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim,” Zulum said.
He urged citizens to remember the sacrifices of the military, Civilian Joint Task Force, vigilantes, and hunters on the frontlines, saying their contributions had made it possible for many communities to return to relative peace.
“My recent visit to Marte, Rann, Gamboru Ngala, Dikwa, Kukawa and Monguno is reassuring. We will continue to build resilience among our people.
“This is the only way to defeat insurgency. On my part, I will continue to make extra sacrifices and invest heavily in the security sector to achieve sustainable peace,” Zulum added.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the Armed Forces and sustaining partnerships with security agencies to ensure the total restoration of peace across the state.

MAKURDI- Traders in Benue have expressed joy with the surge in sales in preparation for the Eid-El-Kabir celebration.
They made their feelings known in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Friday in Makurdi.
Mr Aliyu Yakubu, a rice seller in Makurdi, said weeks ahead of the celebration, he was optimistic that he would make sales during the season.
“Business has been good so far. People are already coming to buy rice for the Sallah celebration.
Yakubu disclosed that the price of rice per bushel had dropped from N35,000 to between N28,000 and N25,000, depending on the quality or grade of the commodity.
Mr Ibrahim Hassan, a foodstuff trader, said that the demand for beans and rice was high during the celebration.
Hassan also said the slash in prices had helped as a measure of beans, which was sold for N2,300, N2,200 and N2,000 had dropped to N1,900 and N1,800.
Mrs Aisha Musa, a trader who sells traditional clothing and accessories, corroborated Yakubu’s story that patronage had been good.
“Many people prefer to wear traditional clothing during the Sallah celebration, so we are expecting a lot of sales in the next few days,” Musa said.
Mrs Mary Udende, a trader who sells household items, said that they were doing their best to offer discounts to their customers, knowing fully well that many people were struggling to make ends meet.
Mr Peter Ogbe, a customer, said that even as the Muslims were celebrating Sallah, prices of commodities remained the same, while in some areas, prices had dropped significantly.
Ogbe, however, expressed worry that furing ither festve seasons, prices of goods and services used to escalate beyond the reach of the common man.
“What is responsible for this ugly yet persistent trend?” Ogbe queried, expressing hope that the current trend would continue. (NAN)
LAGOS- The Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, on Friday emphasised the importance of compassion, loyalty and devotion among Nigerians.
Hamzat said in Lagos that the country deserved its citizens’ commitment.
He made this remark during an interview with journalists after observing Eid prayers at Ikoyi.
The deputy governor urged Nigerians to be loyal to each other and to the country, adding that they should show compassion especially to the less privileged.
“We must be loyal to each other and to our country. We must be compassionate especially to the less privileged.
“We must show that we care about others, regardless of our political class,” he said.
Hamzat said that the well-being of the masses must be given priority attention at all levels of governance.
He added that security, safety, unity and peace were needed for societal progress.
He emphasised the need for the citizens to pray for and support the military.
“We must daily pray for Nigerian troops fighting insecurity and terrorism,” the deputy governor urged.
He expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future.
“Nigeria’s future will be bright if the citizens pray and do the right things.

PLATEAU – Rep. Yusuf Gagdi (APC-Plateau) has donated N80 million and 71 rams to his constituents to celebrate this year’s Eid-el-kabir.
Gagdi, representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency of the state, presented the items to the beneficiaries on Thursday night in Dengi, Kanam Local Government Area.
According to him, the gesture aims at ensuring that his people, particularly the less privileged ones, celebrate the Eid-el-kabir with ease.
He maintained that the cash and other items would be distributed to the people devoid of party and ethnic affiliations.
“Eid-el-Kabir is not just a festivity, but a divine reminder that the truest form of sacrifice is not in the slaughtering of animals, but in the surrendering of pride, selfishness, and personal comfort for the sake of others.

SOKOTO – The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has called on Nigerian leaders to unite and commit themselves to addressing the pressing challenges facing the country.

ABUJA – The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, has called on Muslims across Nigeria to reflect the virtues of love, sacrifice, truth, and integrity, attributes of Allah, as they celebrate this year’s Eid al-Adha.

The President made the appeal in the Eid-el-Kabir message to Nigerians, which he signed on Thursday.

Succour to Mokwa people
Over 150 people lost their lives and several properties destroyed in a recent flooding in Mokwa, Niger State and Tinubu expressed the need to join hands in bringing succour to the people of Mokwa.
“In this instance, I recall recent sad developments in our country, particularly the Wednesday, May 28 heavy flooding, which submerged the market town of Mokwa, Niger State, causing deaths and destruction of properties and creating an untold humanitarian crisis.
“Let us pray for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives and fortitude for their relations. Let us join hands with the government to bring succour to the people of Mokwa.”
The President called for prayers for front-line officers who risk their lives for our safety and security during the Eid celebrations.
He also appealed for prayers for leaders at all levels and asked for those in need to be remembered.
“Let us pray for our leaders at all levels and our country. Let us pray for peace in our tumultuous world of troubles and uncertainties. Let us dedicate this sacred celebration to seeking God’s guidance and blessings for our country.
