Cash transfer office investigates alleged non-payment of 10,000 beneficiaries in Zamfara

GUSAU- The Zamfara unit of the National Cash Transfer Programme says it has started investigation into alleged non-payment of more than 10,000 cash transfer beneficiaries in Tsafe Local Government Area of the state. More than 10,000 beneficiaries from 17 communities in the local government area staged a protest on Thursday over alleged non-payment of their benefits since their enrolment in 2018. The Training and Communication Officer of the unit, Mr Nasir Ja’afar told newsmen in Gusau on Monday that the matter had already been channelled to the National Cash Transfer Office, Abuja. “We are aware of the uproar coming from communities in Tsafe Local Government Area over non-payment of the benefits. “I am appealing to affected beneficiaries and communities to be patient as the issue has already been channelled to the National Cash Transfer Office, Abuja. A total of 130,000 poor and vulnerable households were enrolled into the National Cash Transfer Programme in Zamfara in a pilot scheme. Police foil kidnap attempt in Niger, arrest gang leader

The Niger Police Command has arrested 26-year-old Umar Mohammed aka Babuga Yellow, for alleged kidnapping. In a press statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, on Friday in Minna, the suspect revealed that his gang had plans to carry out an operation before he was arrested. “He confessed that the syndicate was planning to abduct two prominent persons in Garatu village,” the statement revealed. The suspect also mentioned names of other gang members who are at large, adding that they have been involved in kidnapping for ransom and cattle rustling. “During interrogation, he confessed to having belonged to a group of bandits who specialized in cattle rustling and kidnapping for ransom. Police in Delta say they have arrested a suspected armed robber and recovered ammunition from him. Spokesman of the police in the state, DSP Bright Edafe, said in Warri that the suspect was arrested on the Ughelli-Warri Expressway. “Operatives intercepted a motorcycle carrying two persons at about 10 a.m. on Dec, 21. Upon sighting the police, the passenger alighted from the motorcycle and ran into a nearby bush. After a hot chase, one of the suspects, an 18-year-old was arrested and one locally-made double barrel pistol and 10 live cartridges were recovered from him, Edafe explained. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday said it had begun investigation into a trending audiotape containing claims, allegedly made by one of its prosecutors, Mr. Mohammed Idris, about the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN). It said the recording of what may be a conversation between Idris and a relative of a crime suspect contained “unsubstantiated claims” regarding the minister’s influence on the commission. The Nigerian Air Force has received a report on the NAF Beechcraft 350 crash that claimed the lives of 11 military officers including a serving Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Villagers flee as seven killed over alleged witchcraft in Adamawa community

Police in Adamawa have confirmed the killing of seven people over allegation of witchcraft at Dasin Bwate village in Fufore Local Government Area of the state. Police spokesman in the state, DSP Sulaiman Nguroje, confirmed the development to the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Yola.
