ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – The Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit, Hafsat Abubakar Bakari, has expressed confidence in Nigeria’s representative for the 9th GIABA Inter-University Speech Contest, Miss Amra Onize Salihu, ahead of the regional competition in Freetown.
Salihu, a 500-level Law student at the University of Abuja, paid a courtesy visit to the NFIU headquarters before departing to represent Nigeria at the competition, which will bring together students from across West Africa to deliberate on the impact of Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) measures on the region’s economies, the remarks released on the official X account of NFIU on Thursday said.
During the meeting, Bakari commended the Inter-Governmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa for promoting awareness of anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing issues among young people through academic engagements. She encouraged Salihu to participate with confidence, strive for excellence and carry the nation’s flag with pride.
The NFIU boss also praised the student’s remarkable achievements, describing her as an outstanding debater and advocate whose accomplishments have distinguished her among her peers.
Precise Post recalls that Salihu recently emerged as the national champion of the 2026 Amnesty International Intervarsity Debate Competition, defeating contestants from 24 universities across Nigeria. The feat underscored her strength in legal reasoning, public speaking, advocacy and leadership.
The NFIU said its support for the law student aligns with its commitment to empowering young Nigerians to champion transparency, accountability, financial integrity and good governance across Africa.
The agency wished Salihu success as she prepares to represent Nigeria at the regional contest in Sierra Leone, expressing optimism that she will make the country proud on the West African stage.
