NIGER – Gov. Umaru Bago of Niger on Friday commended the National Youth Service Corps as a pillar of unity, stressing its relevance for nation-building during the opening ceremony of the 2025 Batch C orientation course.
Represented by Dr Muhammad Makusidi, Permanent Secretary for General Services, Bago urged corps members at Paiko Orientation Camp to uphold discipline, patriotism and selflessness as core values throughout their service year.
He noted the scheme instilled commitment, teamwork, integrity, tolerance and patriotism in graduates, stressing that the orientation programme remained a foundation for productive national service and efforts to strengthen national integration.
Bago congratulated corps members on completing their studies and encouraged full participation in Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development training, stressing that skills had become essential for navigating a competitive economic environment.
He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to upgrading camp facilities and supporting security agencies to ensure corps members’ safety, while lauding past contributions to development in health, education, agriculture and infrastructure.
State NYSC Coordinator Martina Shuaibu-Ibrahim, welcomed corps members and urged strict discipline and adherence to camp rules, noting the orientation course provided drills and lectures that promoted unity and strengthened integration.
She said deployment alongside peers from diverse backgrounds reflected the NYSC mission of unity, urging caution while warning against cultism, drug abuse and misuse of social media throughout the service year.
Shuaibu-Ibrahim expressed appreciation to the state government, security agencies, traditional rulers and stakeholders for supporting the scheme, saying their collaboration would enhance programme delivery and significantly improve outcomes for corps members. (NAN)
