A BUJA (PRECISE POST) – ABUJA Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has signed the state’s ₦1.84 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, describing the development as a new chapter of cooperation, unity and progress in the state.
Fubara disclosed this in a statement posted on his official X handle on Thursday, where he expressed appreciation to God, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, the Rivers State House of Assembly and the people of the state for their roles in the budget process.
The governor said the signing of the appropriation law underscored his administration’s commitment to ensuring the continued development of the state while prioritising the welfare of Rivers residents.
“Today, I signed the ₦1.84 trillion Rivers State 2026 Appropriation Bill into Law, marking a new chapter of cooperation, unity and progress,” Fubara stated.
He specifically acknowledged Wike, who served as governor of Rivers State from 2015 to 2023 before becoming FCT Minister, alongside the state legislature and the people of Rivers State.
“I thank Almighty God, the Minister of F.C.T; Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike GSSRS, the Rivers State House of Assembly and all Rivers people for their commitment to this process,” he said.
Fubara’s acknowledgement of Wike is particularly significant against the backdrop of the political tensions that had characterised relations between the governor and his predecessor in recent times.
However, the governor’s latest statement placed emphasis on cooperation and unity, suggesting a renewed focus on governance and development rather than political differences.
Fubara said his administration would remain focused on translating the budget into tangible improvements in the lives of residents and accelerating development across the state.
“Our focus remains firmly on the welfare of our people and the continued development of Rivers State,” the governor added.
The ₦1.84 trillion appropriation now provides the statutory framework for the Rivers State Government’s spending and development programmes for the 2026 fiscal year.
The governor’s emphasis on welfare and development also signals the administration’s intention to use the budget as an instrument for delivering public infrastructure and other programmes targeted at improving the living conditions of Rivers people.
With the appropriation now signed into law, attention is expected to shift to its implementation and the extent to which the government can translate the approved expenditure into measurable outcomes for citizens across the state.
The governor’s appreciation of the House of Assembly and all Rivers people further highlighted the importance he attached to legislative cooperation and broad-based support in implementing the 2026 fiscal programme.
