Ibadan (PRECISE POST) – President Bola Tinubu has declared that Nigeria’s economy has “turned the corner for good,” attributing the success to the ongoing economic reforms introduced by his administration over the past two years.
Speaking on Friday at the coronation ceremony of Oba (Senator) Abdul-Rashidi Adewolu Akanmu Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, President Tinubu assured Nigerians that they will soon begin to reap the rewards of their sacrifices and the reforms.
According to the statement released on the X handle of the Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy), Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu said:
“Today, I am honoured to bring the cheering news that our economy has turned around and there is now light at the end of the tunnel,” the President announced to a cheering crowd in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The President praised the resilience of Nigerians, acknowledging their support, endurance, and sacrifices, which he said have been instrumental to the ongoing recovery.
The coronation also held personal significance for President Tinubu, who referred to the new Olubadan as a friend and political ally. He commended Oba Ladoja for his contributions to Nigeria’s democratic journey and for overcoming what he described as an “illegal impeachment” during his tenure as Oyo State Governor.
“All the things we started together with great expectations, and the history we shared, are coming to pass,” Tinubu said. “I pray that you will live long and be celebrated as one of the rare leaders in history to ascend the throne of your forefathers.”
The event was marked by tributes and symbolism. Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State officially presented Oba Ladoja with the staff of office and certificate of recognition. He described the coronation as a unifying moment, declaring an end to longstanding disputes surrounding traditional succession in Ibadanland.
“There is no more rancour about the kingship in Ibadanland,” Governor Makinde affirmed. “All challenges associated with the Ibadan traditional institution are now over and put behind us.”
In his acceptance speech, Oba Ladoja described his ascension as a journey of destiny, spanning over three decades since he became Mogaji of the Arusa family in 1992.
“It is not by power, influence, connection, or money that we are here today,” he said. “I appreciate God for taking me to the finishing line.”
He pledged to uphold the responsibilities of the throne and thanked President Tinubu for honouring the ceremony with his presence.
Dignitaries, traditional rulers, and political leaders from across the country attended the ceremony, which symbolized both a historical milestone for Ibadanland and a reaffirmation of political alliances.
