The historic town of Ijebu-Ode was transformed into a vibrant spectacle of tradition, elegance, and royalty on Friday as thousands gathered to mark the 2026 Ojude Oba festival.
The 2026 edition of the festival is scheduled to take place at the Awujale palace in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun.
Ojude Oba, meaning “the king’s courtyard,” is an annual celebration of the Ijebu people in Ogun state. The festival is famous for its bold display of culture, elaborate pageantry, and deep ancestral pride.
This year’s event was no exception. From ornately dressed horse riders and synchronised age-grade groups to stunning traditional outfits and lively dance performances, the celebration once again highlighted the rich heritage and unity of the Ijebu people.
Nollywood stars also made their presence felt. Akin Faminu, Rotimi Salami, Eniola Badmus, Tayo Odueke, Femi Branch, and Adeniyi Johnson all turned heads in their majestic royal attire.
Farooq Oreagba reclaimed his title as ‘Mr Steeze,’ dazzling in a white-and-purple traditional outfit, and, of course, his horse was equally stylish.
One of the biggest highlights of Ojude Oba is the colourful parade of the Regberegbe groups, vibrant age-grade societies made up of people within similar age brackets.
Over the years, the festival has become a symbol of cultural identity, unity, fashion, interfaith harmony and tradition among the Ijebu people.
