5 killed, 12 injured on Lagos-Ibadan expressway after sleeping driver rams into truck

At least, five people have died while 12 others sustained varying degrees of injuries in an accident along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, on Tuesday. The accident, which occurred a distance away from Foursquare along the highway, involved a Mazda bus with registration number, SMK 685 YG and a truck marked, ZE 121 0G. Spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Ogun Sector Command, Florence Okpe, confirmed the accident to journalists in Abeokuta on Tuesday. According to Okpe, the accident was caused by the driver of the Mazda bus, who lost control of the wheels while sleeping. “A total of 18 people, comprising 10 male adults and eight female adults were involved in the accident. Twelve people were injured and unfortunately, five persons were recorded dead from the crash. “The suspected causes of the fatal crash were tyre bursts, speed and fatigue, which led to loss of control because the driver slept off on the wheels and rammed into a moving truck. “The injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere, while corpses were deposited at FOS Morgue Ipara”, Okpe said.

A sand-filled heavy-duty truck collided with a moving vehicle along Airport Road in Lugbe, Abuja, on Monday, killing a radio presenter, Deborah Ohamara. According to a Facebook user, Nten Ekpang, who shared details of the accident, “A car hit Deborah Ohamara from behind while she was driving and she rammed into a moving trailer. A road accident in Umunya, Odumodu Junction in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, on Saturday, left no fewer than eight passengers dead. The accident, which involved two trailers, one Jetta Sienna bus, and one black Toyota car, all of which were severely damaged, was said to have occurred as a result of over-speeding. A motorcycle rider, who identified himself as Mr Kenechukwu, an eyewitness, said one of the trucks involved lost its brake while travelling from Onitsha to Enugu. He said: “I was waiting for passengers when I suddenly saw a trailer coming from Onitsha with full speed. Federal Commissioner dies in road crash in Yobe

A fatal road crash has claimed the life of Alhaji Faruq Umar, a Federal Commissioner in the Code of Conduct Bureau representing the North East Region. The deceased was involved in the accident in the early hours of Sunday along Jakusko-Gashu’a highway while returning after a condolence visit to Jakusko town. Yobe State Deputy Governor, Idi Barde Gubana was among the top government functionaries who attended the funeral prayer of the deceased. A tragic accident has claimed the lives of three staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission and five others badly injured.
