ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Human right activist Comrade Shehu Sani has taken former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El’Rufai to the cleaners over “Government led by illiterate” remarks.
Senator Shehu Sani highlighted that a man who looted Kaduna state, piled up debt for our people, used religion to divide the people of the state, Enriched and Shared lands to friends and family members, disobeyed court orders, persecuted journalists, arrest people for criticising him on social media, monetised banditry, have no moral and saintly feet to stand on the pulpit of democracy to preach about good governance.
Precise Post recalls that speaking at a national conference in Abuja on strengthening democracy in Nigeria Tuesday, El’Rufai took a swipe at his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing it of abandoning its founding principles and fostering poor leadership.
He criticized the quality of leadership emerging from political parties, attributing it to unqualified delegates.
According to him, “You cannot afford to have illiterates, semi-illiterates, and cunning people as your leaders. This is why we end up with the poor leadership we have today.”
Reacting when he took to his X account on Thursday, Shehu Sani said when in power as Kaduna state Governor, El’Rufai practiced tyranny and unleashed evil, and out of power now, he is sanctimoniously preaching democracy to the country he helped to wreck, plundered and persecuted.
According to him, El’Rufai demonised the opposition when in the palace and now embracing them when in the wilderness. He likened the former governors conduct to that of a man who is turned down by a woman who now resorted to speaking ill of her. Adding that Tinubu was his Angel until when he (El’Rufai) was “evicted from the house” and now telling the world he is a demon.
Shehu Sani said the reason why El’rufai said the Government is led by illiterates is because they refused to hire him, branding him “Professor midget.
Shehu Sani’s reaction reads in part:
“If he is in a Keke napep, he will call it a Lamborghini; if he is thrown out of the Lamborghini, he will call it a Keke Napep.
“The man with a history of undisguised intolerance to opposition and hypersensitive alergy to criticisms have no moral and saintly feet to stand on the pulpit of democracy to preach about good governance.
“He left a heap of garbage in Kaduna now preaching hygiene to a country has not forgotten the history of his dirt.”
“The Man who looted Kaduna state, piled up debt for our people, used religion to divide the people of the state, Enriched and Shared lands to friends and family members, disobeyed court orders, persecuted journalists, arrest people for criticising him on social media, monetised banditry is now telling others how to govern.”
“If this man was admitted into Tinubu’s Government, no critic of the Government in the North or South would have been spared from his toxicity.”
“He thought he would have a puppet Governor in Kaduna state, now it’s the opposite and he is frustrated.”
“He is now jobless, most times seeking to be invited to northern public events where he will whip up sectional sentiments.”
El-Rufai who lamented the lack of internal democracy and active party structures within the APC, said, “I no longer recognize the APC. No party organ has met in two years—no caucus, no NEC, nothing. You don’t even know if it is a one-man show; it’s a zero-man show.”
The former governor criticized the quality of leadership emerging from political parties, attributing it to unqualified delegates.
El-Rufai urged political parties to set higher standards for candidates and delegates, noting that the constitution’s minimum requirement of a secondary school certificate should not suffice for party nominations.
Reflecting on the party’s foundation, El-Rufai said the APC was originally established to combat corruption, rebuild the economy, and enhance security. He, however, said the goals have been abandoned.
The problems that led to the creation of the APC remain unresolved, but I no longer believe the APC is interested in addressing them. The distance between me and the party is widening.
El-Rufai also urged opposition parties to unite and form a broad coalition to challenge the ruling party and protect democracy.
“There are internal mercenaries in the PDP, hired and motivated to destroy the party. The Labour Party is also facing similar issues. Peter Obi himself told me, ‘I don’t know what’s happening in the party I contested with.
There seems to be a deliberate project to destroy opposition parties,” he alleged.
Citing a poll that revealed 75% of registered voters might abstain from the 2027 elections, El-Rufai warned of an impending crisis.
“This is dangerous. For those of us who lived half our lives under military rule, we know what it is. We don’t want a military rule, but we also don’t want civilians behaving like the military in their babbar riga and suits,” he said.
He appealed to opposition parties to set aside their differences and form a united front to save democracy.
“This is a national emergency, and we must act before history repeats itself, El’Rufai said.
