UYO – Gov. Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom has urged politicians in Akwa Ibom not to indulge in character assassination during the 2027 electioneering.
Eno made the call on Friday during a broadcast to mark his administration’s third year anniversary.
The governor urged Akwa Ibom people to play politics of ideas instead of name-calling and character assassination.
“It is our collective duty to view the state above our political interests, let’s play politics as genuine sportsmen and civilized people,” he said.
He said that his emergence as governor in 2023 was a divine mandate to enthrone peace and unite the people.
“As the state chief executive, I have kept this promise, I will not want anyone to destabilise the existing peace in the state.
“As the political season commences, I urge our people to play politics of ideas and not one of name-calling or character assassination,” he said.
The governor said that Akwa Ibom should remain united irrespective of political leanings.
Eno said that in the past three years, his administration had provided more than N6 billion as business grants to youth and farmers in the state.
“This was to boost their economic fortune. Many youth have been trained at both Ibom-LED and the Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre, and were given N750,000 as start-up packs.
“Today, I make bold to state unequivocally, that we have ticked all the boxes, and are gearing to do even more,” he said.
He further said that his administration would establish youth development centers in all the 31 local government areas in the state.
“The centres will be used to train youth in e-commerce, creatives, fashion design, and to create social mobility in line with what is happening in countries such as India and China,” he said.
The governor said that the government would soon take delivery of 50 Compressed Natural Gas-powered buses to improve the transportation system in the state.
Eno said that with significant improvements in internally generated revenue, his administration was building a future of growth and expansion for Akwa Ibom.
On the Ibom Deep Seaport, the governor stated that the Federal Government had approved certifications and compliance processes as one of the five facilities to be approved.
He assured that the state government would pursue the actualisation of the Ibom Deep Seaport to a logical conclusion with the support of Akwa Ibom people.(NAN)
