Atiku Abubakar’s media aide, Paul Ibe, has stated that the former Vice President was already wealthy before venturing into politics, stressing that his wealth is legitimate and traceable.
Speaking during an interview with Trust TV, Ibe disclosed that Atiku single-handedly purchased the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, long before holding public office.
“Atiku single-handedly bought the Wadata Plaza for the PDP. That shows how wealthy he was before entering government. There is nothing wrong with being wealthy, and his money was legitimate,” Ibe said.
Zoning Debate Ahead of 2027 Elections
On the clamour for zoning the presidency ahead of the 2027 elections, Ibe dismissed the argument, noting that Nigerians are more concerned about competence than ethnicity.
“The internal polls we’ve conducted show Nigerians don’t care where the next president comes from. People are struggling to survive and want credible leadership, not tribal politics,” he explained.
Criticism of Tinubu’s Administration
Ibe also criticised President Bola Tinubu’s government, accusing it of reckless spending while ordinary Nigerians face hardship.
“Average citizens cannot be asked to tighten their belts while leaders live in affluence and loot the country. Current policies benefit only urban bandits, not struggling Nigerians,” he said.
Atiku’s Democratic Record
Defending Atiku’s political consistency, Ibe highlighted his long history in Nigeria’s democratic process, stating that the former Vice President has won most party primaries he has contested, except in 2014 when Muhammadu Buhari emerged victorious.
“As a democrat, Atiku believes in open competition. He will never block anyone who feels they have something to offer. Let everyone test their popularity with Nigerians,” Ibe added.
