JALINGO – There is uneasy calm in Takum and other parts of Taraba as condemnations continue to trail the gruesome murder of the Gara of Chanchagi Alhaji Tanimu Kunbiya and his son in the late hours of Friday while on transit along Wukari-Takum road, in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The member representing Takum/Donga/Ussa federal constituency and former chairman Takum local government council Hon. Mark Useni who described the killing as a rude shock, dastardly, and condemnable especially as it comes at a time the people from Chanchanji area have started experiencing peace and returned to their farming activities.
“I have received the news of the gruesome killing of the Chief of Chanchanji Abdul Hamid.Y. Kumgbera and his son Yusuf Abdul Hamid with rude shock. This dastardly act is condemnable especially at such a time that the area is experiencing peace while farmers engage in farming activities and business are beginning to thrive.
“I urge our security services to rise up to the situation by ensuring that the perpetrators of this wicked act are arrested and brought to face justice. I wish to commend the state Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas for the immediate security steps he has taken to keep the area peaceful.
“I enjoyed a good working relationship with the late Monarch dating back to 20 years ago when I was the chairman of Takum local government area. He was a lover of his people and was committed to peace and community development.
“I urge the people of Chanchanji and indeed Takum Local Government to remain calm and law abiding as government takes steps to ensure security of the whole area” Useni said.
In the same vain, the Executive Chairman of Takum local government area Hon. John Ali has described the killing of the monarch as insane and absolutely uncalled for.
In a phone interview with our Correspondent, Ali said that the monarch was very committed to peace and unity in the area and it is unthinkable that someone will gruesomely murder him.
“I am on my way to ascertain what really happened but I can tell you that this is insane. It is absolutely uncalled for. Not at a time we have made a lot of progress in terms of security of lives and property of the people in the local government area.
“For a while now, we are all enjoying relative peace that has enabled farmers to return to their farms and businesses are also picking up again. I condemn this totally and let me urge the people to remain calm. As a council, we would work with the security agencies, the family and all other stakeholders to ensure that the killers are unravelled and made to face the full length of the law.
“Let me warn that we would not sit back and watch anyone try to jeopardise our peace efforts. Anyone trying to ferment trouble should be ready to have more trouble than they can contain. This will not be swept under the carpet. We would work diligently and get to the root of this” he emphasized.
