ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, on their bronze medal victory at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, praising the players’ resilience and fighting spirit after a dramatic win over Egypt.
In a statement released on his X handle Saturday, signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President commended the Eagles for bouncing back from the disappointment of their semi-final defeat to host nation Morocco, describing the third-place finish as a powerful demonstration of the Nigerian spirit.
Nigeria secured the bronze medal after overpowering seven-time African champions Egypt, eventually triumphing in a penalty shootout following a dominant performance in regulation time.
President Tinubu noted that the victory showcased the determination, persistence, and “can-do” attitude for which Nigerians are renowned.
“Despite their impressive run in the tournament, our hopes of winning the championship were dashed after the semi-final loss to Morocco on penalties,” the President said. “However, our players remained undaunted, and by exhibiting the resilience of the Nigerian spirit, their efforts have now paid off.”
He added that Nigerians would take pride in watching the team receive their medals in Rabat, Morocco.
“We will all be proud of them as they receive their hard-earned bronze medal on Sunday,” Tinubu said. “Thank you, our gallant Super Eagles. Thank you, our national team players. This bronze medal surely feels good like gold.”
