Tinubu to Hold Strategic Talks in Turkey on Trade, Security

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja on Monday, January 26, 2026, for a state visit to the Republic of Türkiye.

The visit is aimed at strengthening existing bilateral relations between Nigeria and Türkiye, while exploring new areas of cooperation in security, education, social development, innovation and aviation.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan last visited Nigeria on October 19–20, 2021, as part of ongoing diplomatic engagements between both countries.

During President Tinubu’s visit, Nigeria and Türkiye are expected to hold high-level political and diplomatic discussions focused on shared interests in finance, communications, trade and investment.

The programme will also feature meetings between senior government officials from both countries, as well as the signing of several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) covering scientific research, energy, technical cooperation, media and communications, military cooperation and diplomatic protocol.

A Nigeria–Türkiye business forum will also be held, bringing together investors and private-sector leaders from both countries to explore partnership opportunities.

Members of President Tinubu’s delegation expected to participate in the bilateral engagements include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd); and the Chairman, House Committee on Defence, Hon. Jimi Benson.

Others are the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; the Minister of Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.

President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria at the conclusion of the visit.
