ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – The Headquarters of the Nigerian Army has announced the arrest of a Nigerian soldier who was declared wanted over his alleged involvement in the illegal supply of military accoutrements to terrorists and other criminal elements in the North-East.
In a statement signed by Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Maiduguri released via its official X handle, the military said troops of Operation HADIN KAI apprehended the suspect, identified as 23NA/84/1939 Private Mohammed Yusuf of the Nigerian Army Ordnance Kits Factory, Lagos, during an intelligence-led operation in Maiduguri.
According to the statement, the suspect was arrested at about 6:30 p.m. on Friday, July 25, 2026, by troops of the 7 Provost Group at Jidari Bus Stop, Maiduguri, while allegedly attempting to flee to the Republic of Cameroon.
The military disclosed that Private Yusuf had been declared wanted by the Nigerian Army on July 23, 2026, following allegations that he was involved in the unlawful supply of military accoutrements to terrorists and other criminal groups.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the soldier allegedly absconded from his unit on July 7, 2026, before relocating to Maiduguri, where he reportedly went into hiding in the Gomari Costain area of Jere Local Government Area with the assistance of an associate.
Operation HADIN KAI said the successful arrest was made possible through credible human intelligence, describing it as further proof of the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations in dismantling criminal support networks aiding insurgents.
The military stressed that the arrest demonstrates the Nigerian Army’s commitment to accountability and discipline, insisting that no personnel found to be undermining national security would be shielded from justice.
“The suspect is currently in the custody of the 7 Provost Group, where further investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of his activities and identify other individuals who may have been involved,” the statement said.
Reaffirming its resolve to combat terrorism, Operation HADIN KAI declared that there is no safe haven for anyone supporting terrorism or criminality, regardless of status or affiliation.
The military also appealed to members of the public to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies, noting that public cooperation remains vital to ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace and security across the North-East theatre of operations.
