ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Former federal lawmaker that represented Kaduna Central in the 8th senate, Senator Shehu Sani has said that recent comments by United States President Donald Trump acknowledging that Muslims are also victims of terrorist violence in Northern Nigeria have helped to properly situate the country’s security crisis in its true context.
In a statement on Friday released on his X handle, Sani noted that Trump’s admission effectively dismantles earlier claims portraying the violence in Northern Nigeria as a targeted genocide against a particular religious group.
According to him, the earlier narrative was designed to mislead the international community and possibly enlist the United States in pursuing “a hidden agenda” that does not reflect the complex realities on ground.
Sani stressed that terrorism in Nigeria does not discriminate by faith, insisting that being a Muslim offers no immunity from the brutality of extremist groups.
“Terrorism kills indiscriminately. Muslims, Christians, and people of other beliefs are all victims of this evil,” he said.
The former lawmaker called on Nigerians of all faiths to acknowledge the shared dangers they face and unite in confronting the menace of terrorism.
He also warned against the belief that external powers could resolve Nigeria’s internal security challenges, urging citizens and leaders alike to take responsibility for solving the country’s problems.
“We must free ourselves from the illusion that a foreign power will solve the problems we are supposed to solve ourselves,” Sani added.
He concluded by emphasizing the need for collective national resolve and interfaith cooperation as the only viable path to eradicating terrorism and restoring peace across the country.
