Ezeali, who is also Chairman of the House Committee on Project Monitoring and Evaluation, gave the commendation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja.
He described him as a national asset as he marks his 62nd birthday.
He said Umahi’s contributions to governance and infrastructure development at both state and national levels have positioned him as a transformative leader whose legacy continues to impact lives across Nigeria.
“Leadership, according to Warren Bennis, is the capacity to translate vision into reality. Engr. Umahi exemplifies this through his transformational achievements in Ebonyi and his ongoing contributions at the federal level,” Ezeali said.
Ezeali outlined Umahi’s record of infrastructure development and policy reforms during his time as governor, noting that his dedication to service delivery, project execution, and accountability earned him national recognition.
“His commitment to infrastructure development is visible not only in Ebonyi, but also in the renewed push for road rehabilitation and engineering standards across the country under his current portfolio”.
According to the lawmaker, Umahi’s leadership style, attention to detail, and hands-on approach have continued to inspire many, especially in the areas of project management and public service delivery.
“His humility, brilliance in project management, and tireless work ethic make him a role model.
“Umahi is not only a mentor to many, but a dependable guide for those who aspire to serve with excellence,” he added.
Ezeali extended birthday wishes to the minister, calling him a distinguished public servant whose achievements continue to inspire Nigerians and contribute meaningfully to national and global leadership discourse.
NAN reports that Umahi was born on July 25, 1963, in Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi.
He served as Deputy Governor from 2011 to 2015 and as Governor from 2015 to 2023.
After completing his tenure as governor, he was elected to represent Ebonyi South Senatorial District in June 2023, a position he held until his appointment as Minister of Works by President Bola Tinubu in August 2023. (NAN)
