OWERRI – Gov. Hope Uzodimma of Imo, on Tuesday, decorated 26 promoted Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs), charging them to uphold the highest standards of discipline and professionalism in their duty.
Speaking at the brief event held at the Government House, Owerri, Uzodimma commended the officers, pointing out that their promotion was a call to higher duty.
“You must, in all circumstances, be an example to those coming behind,” he said.
The governor, represented by his Chief of Staff, Chief Nnamdi Anyaehie, recalled that the state faced significant security challenges between 2020 and 2023.
He acknowledged the sacrifices made by security personnel in the state at the peak of the crisis.
“The state is now safe, calm and secured because of the efforts of the State Government and sacrifices of security personnel,” he said.
Uzodimma said that the state recently inaugurated over 7,000 local vigilance personnel to assist the police in maintaining security in all the communities in the state.
He commended the cooperation and synergy among security agencies, urging the new Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Audu Bosso, to sustain the tempo.
In his remark, Bosso described promotion as a reward for hard work and a significant milestone for the officers and their families.
“You have worked hard and are being rewarded.
“Keep being disciplined and doing your best wherever you are,” he said.
Bosso also reminded the new ASPs that their new status cames with a transition to leadership.
“Now that you are ASPs, you’ll be managing officers, who were once your peers.
“Don’t default or expect leniency, you’re officers now.
“Step up, be disciplined, and lead by example.
“Protect the governor and Government House with excellence,” Bosso said.
He further expressed his gratitude to the State Government, describing Uzodimma as an “infrastructure governor” and a motivator.
He expressed the readiness of the command to work with the governor to keep the state safe.
Earlier in his address, the Chief Principal Security Officer in-charge of Government House, CSP Adamu Shaba, reminded the officers that their elevation was a task on their character.
“The higher the rank, the higher the expectation.
“From today, you will be watched more closely by your superiors, subordinates, and the public.
“You must lead by example, as misconduct at a higher rank now attracts greater consequences,” he said.
Shaba further urged them to justify the trust placed on them by the system by ensuring that their conduct protects the integrity of the police uniform and safety of the state.
