LAGOS- The Naval Officers’ Wives Association (NOWA), Western Naval Command, on Friday visited three naval hospitals in Lagos State and distributed various items to patients.
The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN)reports that items distributed during the visit include toiletries,bed sheets,mop buckets and mop sticks.
Mrs Josephine Oamen, the NOWA Coordinator in the state, said that the association visited Navy Reference Hospital, Ojo; Obisesan Naval Medical Centre, Apapa and Naval Dockyard Medical Centre, Victoria Island.
Oamen said that the association was delighted to share the items as a show of love to the sick and needy on Valentine’s Day.
“We are very happy to share love to the hospital and to the patients”,Oen said
The coordinator added that the gesture was mandated by the NOWA president, Mrs Ijeoma Ogalla and wife of the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Vice Adm. Emmanuel Ogalla.
“Generally February 14 is Valentine’s Day all over the world and it is also seen as a day for sharing love.
“Today, we decided in Western Naval Command, as mandated by the NOWA president, Mrs Ogalla, to visit hospitals and share love to patients in their wards.
“What you can give people who are vulnerable and are sick apart from medicine is love, so that is what we are doing today,” she said.
The coordinator also advised youths not to indulge in anything that could affect them or put them in trouble ,while celebrating Valentine.
She said that any wrong decisions taken on Valentine could have serious effects on youths in the future.
“I urge them to stay away from indulging in alcohol and also advise them to keep themselves and remain chaste and pure.
“Valentine is a day to share God’s love to your parents, siblings, friends, the needy and generally to the people in the society,” Oamen said.
The Commander, Obisesan Naval Medical Centre, Surgeon Commander Chidebere Anyanwu appreciated the gesture and act of love from NOWA.
Anyanwu said that such gesture would help lift up the spirit of the sick and have a positive effect on their rate of recovery.
“We are grateful for the visit and donations to the patients and we wish that such venture will keep on occuring from time to time,” the commander said. (NAN)
