The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Mohammed, has ordered nationwide deployment of operational personnel and equipment to ensure safer roads during the Valentine’s Day celebration.
He warned motorists to avoid excessive speed, drunk driving and all forms of reckless behaviour.
He directed Commanding Officers across the country to intensify patrol operations through massive deployment of officers and men for enhanced visibility, effective traffic control and strict enforcement of traffic regulations.
He said the Corps has activated both operational and public enlightenment strategies to mitigate road traffic crashes during the celebration.
The Corps Marshal further instructed field operatives to make full use of breathalysers and radar guns to detect and apprehend drunk and speeding drivers.
He stressed that any motorist found violating established traffic laws will face appropriate sanctions, noting that the Corps will not compromise on safety standards.
While acknowledging that Valentine’s Day is globally observed as a celebration of love and goodwill in memory of Saint Valentine, he emphasised that motorists must demonstrate responsibility and respect for traffic rules as part of that celebration.
He also urged members of the public to utilise the FRSC’s 122 toll-free emergency line to report crashes, obstructions, or reckless driving for prompt intervention.
The Corps Marshal appealed to road users to cooperate with FRSC personnel on duty, assuring that their presence is solely to safeguard lives and property. He further called on parents and guardians to counsel their wards to act responsibly, noting that youths are particularly vulnerable during festive periods.
