ABUJA – There was mild drama at the Kabusa Primary School polling unit in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) on Saturday after security operatives arrested a young woman found in possession of more than twenty Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
In a video clip circulating among journalists and election observers, the suspect, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was seen being detained by security agents amidst a crowd of angry voters.
According to eyewitnesses at the scene, the incident occurred during the accreditation and voting process. The woman was reportedly loitering around the queue, raising the suspicion of vigilant voters who alerted the security detail stationed at the polling unit.
Upon searching her bag, operatives discovered a significant stack of PVCs belonging to different individuals, far exceeding the legal limit of personal possession.
“The security men stopped her and asked what she was doing. When they searched her, they brought out card after card. We counted more than twenty,” an eyewitness who preferred anonymity told our correspondent. “People were angry. They wanted to deal with her immediately, but the police took her away to prevent a breakdown of law and order.”
The video footage corroborates these claims, showing a tense atmosphere as voters shouted at the suspect while security personnel shielded her from the crowd.
This incident has raised fresh concerns about voter inducement and ballot box manipulation in the area. Possession of multiple voters’ cards belonging to other individuals is a violation of the Electoral Act and is classified as an electoral offense.
At the time of filing this report, the suspect was being held by security operatives for further interrogation. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the arrest or reveal whether the suspect was working for any political party or individual.
The Kabusa Primary School polling unit is located in the AMAC federal constituency, which has seen high voter turnout in the ongoing elections.
