Zahra Buhari, daughter of the late former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, was captured in a heartbreaking moment on the streets of London, visibly crying and shouting after learning of her father’s passing.
A viral video shared on Monday by Imran Muhammad on X (formerly Twitter) shows Zahra struggling to hold back tears as grief overwhelmed her. She was accompanied by other family members, including her mother, former First Lady Aisha Buhari, outside the London hospital where the late president died.
Muhammadu Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023 and as a military head of state from 1984 to 1985, died on Sunday, July 13, at the age of 82, following a brief illness.
In response to his death, Vice President Kashim Shettima and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila traveled to London on Monday to oversee arrangements for returning Buhari’s remains to Nigeria.
Presidential aide Bashir Ahmad confirmed on X that Buhari will be buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, according to Islamic rites. Details regarding the burial date and time will be announced soon.
