
KADUNA- The General Officer Commanding,(GOC), 1 Division Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Mayirenso Saraso, said its ‘Area of Responsibility (AOR)’, has witnessed a significant drop in security threats.
Saraso, who is also Commander, Sector 1 Operations Fansan Yamma, stated this at a week-long , Leadership Awareness and Development Course 11/2025 for Senior Non-Commissioned Officers(SNCOs) in 1 Division Area of Responsibilities on Monday in Kaduna.
He said, “We have embarked on robust operations under the guidance of the Chief of Army Staff.
“I am glad to declare that these operations have yielded remarkable successes leading to a marked decline in security incidents in our Area of Responsibility.
“This is as a result of concerted efforts by the division and sister agencies.
“Our troops will continue to dominate all threat areas to guarantee safety and security to all Nigerians.
The GOC said that efforts and investments that had been commited into organising the seminar were a clear indicatio of the premium the Chief of Army Staff placed on quality leadership by SNCOS in the Nigerian Army.
Saraso said, “This is not surprising considering that out contemporary threats and operating environment demand astute and innovative leadership competences from our SNCOs.”
He said the development course was
designed to equip the SNCOs of the Nigerian Army (NA) with skills and mindset needed to better protect and preserve its cherished image.
The GOC added that the course was structured to cover leadership framework, coaching, mentoring. social media and implications, customs, ethics and traditions.
According to him, others areas are conflicts management, team building, team work, emotional intelligence, critical thinking, constitution and the Armed Forces, among others.
“The stallion family is really elated that the Nigerian Army Resource Centre finds us worthy to host such all-important course for SNCOs here in Kaduna State.
“I implore all the participants and our guests to feel confident in using the highways in Kaduna State.
“Your presence in these roads would reassure the public and boost confidence of road users, “Saraso said.
The commander appreciated the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, forb approving and providing the necessary logistics for the smooth conduct of the course
He urged the participants to seize the platform to share their experiences and exchange ideas.
Saraso also implored them to make efforts to attend all sessions in order to
maximise the unique opportunity.
Also, the Special Guest of Honour, the Director-General, Nigerian Army Resource Centre, retired Maj.-Gen. Garba Wahab, challenged the non-commissioned officers to act as real leaders.
Garba said, “Nobody is going to wait for instructions to be given. Everybody is expected to be on the same page.
He said, “That’s why we are starting with the Chief of Army Staff’s Command philosophy, which is challenging everybody, this is the way I want actions, operations, behaviour to be.
“And if you are able to imbibe that, it becomes easier for people to do their job without being prompted, and foster trust, foster integrity and accountability, because everybody is aware of what is expected of them.”
Garba said the essence of the programme was for them to think critically, analyse issues and then take action.
According to him, decision making is a major component of leadership, adding,” that’s one of the things we want to imbibe in them.”
Garba urged the participants to be attentive and participate in the programme, adding that the programme was supposed to be interactive.
“That us why for every lecture, there is an interactive session, so that they can clear their doubts, ask questions or raise observations.
“Whoever is talking to them, is talking from his own perspective, apart from the command philosophy, every other thing is from an individual perspective, “he said.(NAN)
