ABUJA – The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, has deployed 4,500 personnel to ensure adequate security during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

FCT NSCDC Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, announced the deployment on Wednesday in Abuja, directing officers to secure all areas within the FCT to guarantee a peaceful and hitch-free celebration.

He emphasised that the move was aimed at safeguarding lives and protecting Critical National Assets and Infrastructure before, during, and after the festivities.

He said the officers were drawn from various specialised units of the Corps, including the Female Strike Force, Arms Squad, and Operation Adkasu.

Others he said included the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) unit, as well as the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE) unit.

Odumosu instructed that special attention be paid to soft targets and vulnerable locations such as shopping malls, recreational centres, prayer grounds, markets, motor parks, and amusement parks.

“In a bid to ensure proactiveness and prevent emergencies or unforeseen circumstances, operatives from our undercover unit have already been deployed for covert operations and surveillance,” he said.

The commandant also directed Area Commanders and Divisional Officers to ensure full preparedness across all Area Councils, warning against any security lapses.

“All hands must be on deck. I will not tolerate any form of breach. Ensure adequate personnel deployment,” he stated.

Odumosu charged all officers to maintain professionalism, collaborate with other security agencies, and strictly adhere to rules of engagement.

He cautioned against harassment, intimidation of citizens, and accidental discharge.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or individuals to the nearest security agency.

The commandant also issued a warning to criminals and vandals to stay away from critical infrastructure, stressing that undercover NSCDC officers are monitoring the territory and will not hesitate to apprehend offenders.

He ended by wishing all Muslim faithful a joyful and peaceful celebration and offered prayers for the well-being of the nation.(NAN)
