The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says it has commenced the early distribution of non-sensitive materials to some states ahead of the 2027 general election.
INEC Chairman, *Professor Joash Amupitan*, made this known on Tuesday in Abuja at a national stakeholders’ meeting convened to mark 100 days to the 2027 general election.
Amupitan said the move is part of the commission’s strategy to eliminate the perennial challenge of late arrival of election materials on election day.
“Some states have started receiving some non-sensitive materials ahead of the election,” Amupitan said.
57,000 New BVAS Devices, New Vehicles
The INEC Chairman disclosed that offshore production and fleet contracts have been awarded, and production is at an advanced stage for 57,000 new Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices.
According to him, the new BVAS devices are undergoing software hardening, biometric calibration and battery optimization to ensure optimal performance during the polls.
He also confirmed that delivery of new operational pickup vehicles is ongoing nationwide to aid logistics and movement in difficult terrains.
“Furthermore, we have procured and begun distributing brand-new operational pick-up vehicles to State Offices and LGAs nationwide to navigate challenging terrains,” he added.
Office Infrastructure and Power
Amupitan added that civil works, construction of dedicated BVAS storage facilities, and local government area offices are progressing alongside nationwide office renovations.
He revealed that:
– *Contract for solar power installation* across all INEC offices nationwide has been awarded
– *ICT infrastructure upgrades* to critical applications and core infrastructures have been implemented
– *Readiness assessments* completed in South-West and North-West zones, other zones to follow
Ballot Papers and Result Sheets
On sensitive materials, the INEC boss said procurement for the printing of ballot papers and result sheets is nearly completed.
“Procurement for the printing of ballot papers and results sheets is nearly completed, and advancement towards the final contract awards. The procurement department continues to monitor suppliers, contractors, and interdepartmental delivery schedules closely, so that all the procurement aligns with our statutory timelines,” he said.
The Commission had earlier announced that Nigeria’s National Register of Voters now stands at over *103 million* following the conclusion of the three-phase Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
Collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) will commence on *Friday, October 9, 2026*.
The 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for *January 16, 2027*, while Governorship and State Assembly polls will hold on *February 6, 2027*.
