Rivers 2027: Wike, Chinda, Supporters Meet Fubara in Port Harcourt to Consolidate Reconciliation

by Joy: News Admin

Political reconciliation in Rivers State took a major step forward as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, *Nyesom Wike*, and the Rivers State All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate, *Kingsley Chinda*, alongside their supporters on Tuesday met with Governor *Siminalayi Fubara* in Port Harcourt.

The meeting, which was held at the Governor’s residence in Port Harcourt, the state capital, reportedly lasted for about *four hours* and brought together key figures and supporters from both sides.

According to reports, the meeting was aimed at consolidating the political reconciliation in the state ahead of the *2027 general elections*.

First Reconciliation Meeting Hosted By Fubara

The engagement was said to be the first known occasion Governor Fubara hosted or personally participated in a reconciliation meeting with his supporters since the crisis began.

Wike and Chinda arrived at the Governor’s residence at about 4 pm with their supporters, joining Governor Fubara and his allies for the discussions. Chairman of the Rainbow Coalition reconciliation committee, *Senator Magnus Abe*, was also in attendance.

This is coming after years of political wranglings that created deep divisions among political actors and supporters, including the prolonged dispute between the Governor and the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Why The Meeting Matters for Rivers 2027

The relationship between Wike and Fubara deteriorated shortly after Fubara assumed office in 2023, despite Wike backing his emergence as governor. The crisis led to impeachment proceedings against Fubara and later contributed to President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in the state.

A truce was later reached, with Fubara joining the APC and aligning with the Wike-backed *Rainbow Coalition*. Fubara subsequently announced he would not seek re-election in 2027 and endorsed Chinda as his preferred successor.

Wike had recently declared that his feud with Fubara was over, saying the governor had agreed to return to the political family that backed his emergence.

However, at the time of filing this report, details of the meeting were yet to be ascertained as both sides maintained silence, suggesting a deliberate effort to manage the fragile peace process without external pressure.
