The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command, has announced that 58 inmates across its custodial facilities are currently participating in the 2025 National Examination Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examination.
The disclosure was made on Sunday in an official statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Musbahu Kofar-Nasarawa.
According to the NCoS, this educational milestone was made possible through the full sponsorship of registration fees by the Kano State Government under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
“This initiative reflects the government’s strong commitment to the welfare, rehabilitation, and reintegration of inmates into society,” Kofar-Nasarawa stated.
He emphasized that Governor Yusuf’s continuous support underscores a broader vision of restorative justice, offering incarcerated individuals an opportunity to transform their lives through education.
The command extended its deep appreciation to the state government for its unwavering partnership, noting that such gestures not only boost the morale of inmates but also pave the way for a more hopeful and productive future.
“The NCoS Kano Command remains dedicated to creating an enabling environment for the reformation and education of inmates,” the statement added. “We are proud to partner with a state government that prioritizes inclusive development and second chances.”
This development adds to a growing list of educational and reform-based initiatives aimed at equipping inmates with the tools needed for successful reintegration into society post-incarceration.
