Abuja (Precise Post) – Kano State House of Assembly on Monday suspended five pro-Sanusi lawmakers for six months over the heated debate the unfortunate dethronement of the former Emir generated during plenary last week.
The Speaker, Hon. Abdula’zeez Garba Gafasa, who announced the suspension of the members at the resumption of today’s sitting, said that they were sanctioned for misconduct and violation of the rules of the House.
The suspended members are Garba Yau-Gwarmai (APC, Kunchi/Tsanyawa constituency), Labaran Abdul Madari (APC, Warawa constituency), Isyaku Ali Danja (PDP, Gezawa constituency), Mohammed Bello (APC, Rimin Gado/Tofa constituency), and Salisu Ahmed-Gwamgwazo (APC, Kano Municipal).
Gafasa said: “The five members were suspended for violating the rules of the House, especially Order IV sub 4(a, b, d) and (e) disrupted the sittings of the House and prevented proceedings from going on.
“They behaved violently and even attempted to snatch the mace in a clear attempt to sabotage the sitting of the House,” Gafasa added.
Recall that at the resumption of plenary last Monday, some lawmakers attempted to disrupt the sitting following a move by the chairman of an ad-hoc committee constituted to investigate former Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi ll, with a week dateline to present its report.
When the legislators sensed a move by the committee chairman, and the deputy speaker, Alhaji Hamisu Chidari to read an observation two days before the dateline, a member representing Dala constituency, Alhaji Hussaini Lawal, rejected it.
Immediately, some PDP and APC legislators protested and rejected the move, which led to a rowdy session and physical combat among the members.
