The National Assembly has officially unsealed the office of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central.
Located in Suite 2.05 of the Senate Wing, the office was unsealed on Tuesday morning by the Sergeant-at-Arms, assisted by security personnel. The office had been sealed since March 6, 2025, following the senator’s suspension from the Senate.
A video shared on Tuesday showed Alabi Adedeji, Deputy Director of the Sergeant-at-Arms, removing the red seal from the office door. In the footage, he declared,
“I, Alabi Adedeji, Deputy Director, Sergeant-at-Arms, hereby unseal the office. The office is hereby unsealed. Thank you.”
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended for six months in March 2025 after alleged misconduct linked to her protest against the reassignment of her Senate seat by Senate President Godswill Akpabio on February 20. The suspension barred her from all Senate activities during the 10th Senate session.
Although her suspension officially ended in September 2025, she has been unable to fully resume her duties amid ongoing legal battles and resistance from Senate leadership. On July 4, the Federal High Court in Abuja ruled that the suspension was excessive and unconstitutional.
Following the court ruling, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan formally notified the Senate of her intention to resume her legislative duties. However, the National Assembly rejected her request, prolonging the standoff.
At this time, it remains unclear whether the unsealing of her office grants her full access to the Senate premises, as the Senate has yet to issue a formal resolution regarding her reinstatement.
The Senate is set to reconvene for plenary on October 7, and it is yet to be seen if Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan will join her colleagues in legislative proceedings.
