ABUJA (PRECISE POST)  –  The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has condemned the gruesome killing of a woman, Mrs. Fatima Abubakar, and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano State, describing the incident as a barbaric assault on humanity and the right to life.

The attack reportedly occurred on Saturday, January 17, 2026, when unknown assailants allegedly broke into the family’s home, murdered the victims with dangerous weapons, and threw an infant into a well, according to media reports.

Reacting to the incident, the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Dr. Tony Ojukwu OFR, SAN, said the killings constitute a grave violation of the fundamental right to life as guaranteed by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and international human rights instruments to which Nigeria is a signatory.

Dr. Ojukwu strongly condemned the act and urged the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that those responsible are swiftly brought to justice. He warned that such violence must not be allowed to take root in communities and that impunity should never be tolerated.

The NHRC extended its condolences to the bereaved family, the residents of Dorayi Chiranchi, and the government and people of Kano State, assuring them of the Commission’s solidarity in this moment of profound grief.

Reaffirming the Commission’s mandate, Dr. Ojukwu said the NHRC remains committed to the protection and promotion of human rights and is ready to collaborate with law enforcement agencies to ensure justice for the victims.

He called on all stakeholders to work together to uphold the sanctity of human life and build a society anchored on peace, justice, and respect for human dignity.
