LAGOS – The chairman of Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos, Mrs Yemisi Rosiji, on Friday urged Muslims to uphold discipline, accountability, and social responsibility as essential values for peace and sustainable development.
Rosiji gave the charge at the 21st Annual Ramadan Public Lecture, organised by the Unified Local Government Muslim Staff Association, Ojokoro Chapter, at the Council Secretariat.
She described Ramadan as a sacred season of reflection and moral rebirth, expressing gratitude to Almighty Allah for the privilege of witnessing another holy month.
She commended the association for sustaining the lecture initiative for 21 years, noting that it had consistently provided a platform for spiritual enlightenment and personal growth.
Dr Ridwanullah Jamiu, Chief Imam of Lekki Central Mosque, delivered a lecture titled “Attaining Socioeconomic Security: The Islamic Guidelines,” saying that true security began with Taqwa (Allah-consciousness).
He added that it also required consistent worship and a firm belief in accountability in the hereafter.
Jamiu identified poverty as a major contributor to insecurity, stressing that financial independence and collective responsibility were critical to societal stability.
He also urged the wealthy to support the less privileged, noting that an economically empowered community was less susceptible to crime and unrest.
In her closing remarks, Rosiji appreciated the organisers, guest lecturer, and participants for the programme’s success.
She urged attendees to internalise the teachings, expressing confidence that adherence to Islamic principles of discipline, charity, and accountability would positively transform individuals and the Ojokoro community.
The event ended with special prayers for the progress of Ojokoro, unity among residents, and divine blessings upon Nigeria. (NAN)
