The ‘Akpi’ crooner made the challenge during a recent interview with Hip TV, where he said he was ready to put a huge sum of money on the proposed bout if Burna Boy accepted to fight him.
Speed Darlington, known for his outspoken personality and controversial comments, said he wanted the proposed fight to be a physical contest rather than another exchange of words between the two entertainers.
“I challenge Burna Boy to fight me. I will drop a huge sum just to fight him. I want to fight him. I will beat him. He’s all hype. He can’t beat me. Just because some people like his music doesn’t mean he can beat me. I am challenging him,” he said.
The singer dismissed the idea that Burna Boy’s popularity, musical achievements or large following would give him an advantage in a physical confrontation. According to him, success in the music industry does not automatically translate into superiority in a fight.
The challenge is the latest development in the long-running exchanges between the two artistes, which have repeatedly attracted attention on social media and among their fans.
Speed Darlington’s challenge follows previous boxing controversy
Speed Darlington had previously made controversial allegations concerning Burna Boy and embattled American rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs. He alleged that Burna Boy had an illicit affair with Diddy in exchange for his Grammy Award.
The allegations generated significant attention and further heightened the tension surrounding the two artistes, with Speed Darlington continuing to make comments about Burna Boy.
The latest challenge also comes months after Nigerian singer Portable claimed that he had defeated Speed Darlington in a boxing match and received a financial reward from Burna Boy.
DAILY POST recalls that Portable alleged that Burna Boy gifted him N20 million for beating Speed Darlington during a boxing encounter in April.
Portable claimed that Burna Boy gave him the money because he defeated Speed Darlington, who had been trolling the Grammy-winning singer over his alleged relationship with Diddy and the circumstances surrounding his Grammy Award.
The claim by Portable added another dimension to the public exchanges involving the three artistes, with the alleged boxing encounter becoming part of the wider controversy.
Speed Darlington’s latest comments indicate that he is now seeking a direct confrontation with Burna Boy, rather than another indirect clash involving a third party.
By offering to stake a huge sum of money on the proposed contest, the ‘Akpi’ singer has publicly raised the possibility of settling their rivalry inside the boxing ring.
Burna Boy yet to respond to proposed bout
Burna Boy has yet to publicly respond to Speed Darlington’s latest challenge at the time of filing this report.
The proposed fight has nonetheless added a fresh twist to the ongoing rivalry, with Speed Darlington maintaining that he has what it takes to defeat Burna Boy despite the latter’s status as one of Nigeria’s most successful contemporary music stars.
For now, it remains uncertain whether Burna Boy will respond to the challenge or whether the proposed boxing match will become a reality.
Speed Darlington’s comments, however, have once again put the relationship between the two artistes in the spotlight and are likely to generate further reactions from fans and followers of the Nigerian music industry.
