…Our Responsibility to Guarantee and Ensure Socio-economic Development of Our People
By Simon Akwu
Abuja (Precise Post) – The member representing Katsina-Ala/Ukum/Logo federal constituency, Honorable Richard Gbande says the extra-judicial killing of Mr Terwase Agwaza, aka Gana who on the 8th of September, 2020 joined other repentant criminals to renounce criminality in Markurdi by soldiers was unacceptable.
Dr. Gbande said this in abuja when he interacted with Precise Post, where he said the maiming of Gana after he heeded the voice of reason and advise from Benue elders to embrace amnesty was against the Rule of law and International Humanitarian laws, which must prevail in the case of a repentant fugitive.
His words “if you arrest a person, he is under your control, and so as a professional military man you cannot gun him down.”
Gbande is calling on the Federal and Benue state governments to investigate remote and immediate circumstances that might have led to the gruesome murder of Gana, while taking immediate steps to address; social, political, economic and environmental challenges, and to develop strategies to calm the reprehensible act that can incite banditry and criminal acts, while addressing the conditions conducive to the spread of violent extremism in order to help build and sustain peace in the country.
While Urging Youths in his constituency and Benue state to remain calm on the matter, Dr Gbande also urged the Government to foster youth, education and farmers empowerment programs in order to help address the conditions which have enabled the emergence and survival of Bandits and Criminals in the region (Constituency).
On the other hand, while contributing to the budget debate, Dr Gbande said as representatives of the people, it is our responsibility to guarantee and ensure socio-economic development of their well-being” ” This is true the instrumentality of the budget for the appropriation of resources for the development of the critical sector”.
” This entails paying special attention to the minute details of the budget processes, from formulation, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and feedback”.
