Abuja (Precise Post) – The Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje has lamented that that calls for secession across the length and breadth of the nation will only lead to a weaker country if such calls are given heed.
Speaking at the 2nd Quarterly Lecture of the APC Press Corps held in Abuja, Ganduje said Nigeria cannot afford to experience another civil war.
His words ” Dividing Nigeria will provide weak republics, majority of Nigerians belief that Nigeria should remain one”.
“The unity and indivisibility of Nigeria is a reality, the power of both the new states and the senior will diminish compared to the power of a United Nigeria and Nigerians” he said.
Speaking at the occasion, former governor of Imo state and Panel speaker at the occasion, Sen. Rocha’s Okorocha used the occasion to speak against the spate of injustice and the need to immediately work out modalities to end hunger and inequality in the land.
Okorocha stressed thus: ” Every leader must treat Nigerians like family, we must learn to avoid showing segregation, all the Igbo man is asking for is a level playing ground”.
“If every other governor shows a sign of love outside his or her tribe youths in Nigeria will be united”.
“Patriotism is not the fear of the law but the love of the country, if we address the issues of hunger and insecurity, Nigeria will soar higher than other nations”.
Another panelist who spoke at the occasion, Senator Barau Jibrin, ( APC Kano), used the occasion to canvass for the amendment of the constitution to address some of the anomalies plaguing the country.
He said: “There is no perfect constitution on earth, the US democracy is not perfect hence the US constitution is subjected to change from time to time”.
“Let’s drum the issue of amendment of the constitution into the ears of secessionist agitators”.
“We have to look at the issue of restructuring carefully and dialogue about it”.
