Jalingo (Precise Post) – As the global Christian community marks this year’s Easter celebration, the Taraba State governor Darius Ishaku has called on Christians to use the occasion to ponder over the lessons and the significance of the humility and sacrifice demonstrated by Jesus Christ during his trial and crucifixion.
Gov Ishaku who made the call in his message to Christians in the state also reminded Christians of Christ’s acts of compassion and forgiveness even for his traducers and emphasized that these were exemplary qualities that must not elude the world as they mark this very important festival in the Christian calendar.
He called for extra vigilance on the part of the people because of the alarming spate of kidnappings, killings and other forms of crimes and criminality going on in the country, particularly in neighbouring states and communities and advised them to report suspicious persons visiting the state to security agencies for prompt action.
Similarly, the Speaker of Taraba State House of Assembly Professor Joseph Albasu Kunini has called on Christians to have a deep meditation on the significance of Easter and to make practical the lessons from the sacrifice of Christ.
Kunini, in his Easter message noted that if it were not for Christ’s sacrifice on Calvary for the salvation of mankind, the Christian faith would have been baseless.
He urge political aspirants to play the game by the rules especially as the preparations ahead of the next year’s elections are gathering momentum.
“While congratulating the Christian Church for this great gift of redemption, I must call on fellow politicians and aspirants of various elective offices to play the game of politics according to the rule and to caution their supporters to shun all forms of violence during electioneering campaigns for peaceful conduct of the 2023 general elections.
“As a democrat, I believe that leadership is a calling and challenge to serve humanity, especially in governance, and the role of an ideal leader is to identify and meet the legitimate needs of the people, as well as to guarantee their security and welfare, being the primary purpose of government in the country.
“Therefore let us all embrace peace, stay vigilant and very focused in our collective goal of working for a safer, wealthier, and more peaceful and prosperous state for our children and those unborn” Kunini said.
