ABUJA (PRECISE POST)  –   The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday blasted the latest wave of defections by some members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, describing the move as “a defection from APC to APC” and an orchestrated assault on democratic principles.

In a strongly worded statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, released on the Party’s official X account, the party condemned the lawmakers for what it called a “second round of shameless carpet-crossing,” recalling that the lawmakers had earlier defected from the PDP before later denying the move.

According to the PDP, the affected lawmakers have “consistently acted as political puppets, doing the bidding of their paymaster and demigod,” alleging that their conduct since assuming office has reduced the state legislature to “a mockery of democracy.”

The party accused the lawmakers of ignobly abandoning the platform on which they were elected, insisting that it will initiate legal processes to enforce constitutional provisions and recover the mandates obtained under the PDP banner.

“We will activate all relevant sections of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) to reclaim the people’s mandate,” the statement said.

The PDP also urged its members in Rivers State to remain steadfast, assuring them that ongoing efforts to rebuild and strengthen the party will reflect fairness, inclusiveness and equity.
