ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has underscored the importance of sustained military collaboration between Nigeria and the United States as a critical pathway to ending terrorism and restoring lasting peace and stability across the country.
Akpabio made the remarks while formally welcoming his colleagues back to plenary following the Christmas and New Year recess, stressing that strategic partnerships with trusted international allies remain indispensable in tackling Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
According to the Senate President, the security gains recorded in recent months reflect the unwavering commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to strengthening national security architecture and reinforcing Nigeria’s resolve to confront forces that threaten peace, unity, and development.
He noted that continued cooperation with global partners, particularly in intelligence sharing, military training, and counter-terrorism operations, will further enhance the capacity of Nigerian security agencies to protect lives and property.
Meanwhile, the Senate paid solemn tribute to the late Senator Godiya Akwashiki, who passed away on December 31, observing a minute of silence in his honour.
Precise Post recalls that following the tribute, the Senate adjourned plenary earlier than the usual close of legislative activities as a mark of respect.
