APC Denies Atiku Assassination Plot, Says ADC’s Timi Frank Must Prove Allegation

ABUJA (PRECISE POST)  –  The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has dismissed allegations that the Federal Government is plotting to assassinate former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, challenging the African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Timi Frank, to substantiate his claim.

The council described the allegation as grave and urged security agencies to invite Frank for questioning to provide evidence, stressing that any credible threat to life must be taken seriously, irrespective of political affiliation.

The position was contained in a press statement issued on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, and signed by Dele Alake, spokesperson for the APC Presidential Campaign Council.

The council categorically denied that President Bola Tinubu, the Federal Government or the campaign council was involved in any alleged plot to assassinate Atiku or any opposition figure.

It also dismissed claims that security personnel attached to the former vice president had been withdrawn, insisting that Atiku remained protected by the police and the Department of State Services (DSS).
According to the council, Tinubu recently directed security agencies to reinforce protection for presidential, vice-presidential, governorship and deputy governorship candidates across the country ahead of the 2027 general elections.

It further claimed that Atiku, as a former vice president and a presidential candidate, enjoys two levels of state-funded security protection, adding that his security arrangements had been strengthened rather than compromised.

The council described Tinubu as a statesman and committed democrat who recognises opposition politics as an essential component of Nigeria’s 27-year-old democracy.

It recalled that Tinubu spent 16 years in opposition politics and played a leading role in the coalition that defeated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015 general election.

The APC campaign council accused Frank of engaging in political rabble-rousing to heat up the polity, alleging that some opposition figures had made a habit of writing open letters and tagging foreign leaders and international organisations in social media posts to attract attention.

It warned that politicians and their supporters might resort to provocative statements and what it described as frivolous allegations as the country moves deeper into the campaign season.

The council, however, called on political parties, candidates and their supporters to exercise restraint and ensure that public statements were factual and responsible.

It urged political actors to avoid utterances capable of triggering unnecessary tension, insisting that political competition should remain peaceful, lawful and focused on issues affecting Nigerians rather than character assassination and what it called baseless allegations.
