ABUJA (PRECISE POST) –  The Federal Government has confirmed one case of Ebola Virus Disease in the Federal Capital Territory, triggering an emergency response including contact tracing of 44 persons.

In a statement on Tuesday, Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, said the patient is a woman who arrived in Nigeria on an international flight from Uganda and was admitted to a private hospital in the FCT where lab tests confirmed the infection.

The woman is currently in isolation and receiving medical care, while the Federal Ministry of Health, NCDC and the FCT Health Services Secretariat have intensified surveillance and supported the hospital to strengthen infection prevention and control measures.

The government said public health teams are monitoring close contacts including healthcare workers, caregivers and travel contacts, and has directed all public and private health facilities nationwide to remain on high alert and promptly isolate and report suspected cases.

Nigerians were urged to practice hand hygiene, avoid contact with body fluids of suspected cases, and watch for symptoms such as fever, severe weakness, headache, vomiting and diarrhoea, with Pate assuring that Nigeria has the experience from containing the 2014 outbreak to handle the current case.
