The Nigerian Bar Association has stated that an electronic voting system will be used for its 2024 election. The NBA explained that this decision will allow members of the association to participate in the election seamlessly from their different locations. The association’s Electoral Committee, led by Oluseun Abimbola (SAN), disclosed this during the opening of the nomination forms in Abuja on Tuesday. According to reports the NBA election is scheduled for July 20, 2024, and all registered members from branches across the country are expected to participate.The committee is expected to shortlist the names of successful respondents by April 20, 2024. Gunmen believed to be armed bandits have killed Musa Ille, the secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The bandits shot Musa dead in front of his residence in Tsafe town on Monday evening. The late Musa Ille was a grassroots politician who contributed immensely to the success of the party in the 2023 Election which produced Dauda Lawal as the state governor, TVC reports. Lagos Drug Bust: NDLEA Incinerates 304,436kg, 40,042 Litres of Confiscated Substances

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, on Tuesday, destroyed 304,436 kg and 40,042 litres of illicit substances seized from parts of Lagos and Ogun states. The Director, Media and Advocacy, NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, in a statement made available to journalists, said the seized drugs were publicly destroyed in Badagry, Lagos. Babafemi quoted the agency’s Chairman, Brig.- Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.), as saying that the open destruction of the seized illicit drugs followed court orders. He was also said to have called for more public support for ongoing efforts by the NDLEA and other stakeholders to curb the menace of substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking in Nigeria. “Though a routine exercise and an established process of removing dangerous substances from our society, the public destruction of confiscated illicit drugs is usually conducted at the end of their related cases in court”, the NDLEA boss stated, adding that the exhibits being destroyed were of mixed types, “which include illicit drugs in solid and liquid states as well as in various classes such as cocaine, heroin, cannabis, and tramadol, among others.” He …

The National Examinations Council has re-scheduled the 2024 National Common Entrance Examination into Federal Unity Colleges and the entrance examination into the Federal Government Academy, Suleja. This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday, by the acting Director, Information and Digital Communication of the council, Azeez Sani. Sani stated that the common entrance examination earlier scheduled for April 20, 2024, would now be held on June 1, 2024. He also said that the entrance examination for Gifted and Talented Children into Federal Government Academy, Suleja, earlier scheduled to be held on May 4, 2024, would now be held on May 25, 2024. He added that the rescheduling of the two examinations was due to the low enrollment of candidates. National blackout strikes amidst another collapse of the national grid

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company Plc, EEDC, on Monday alerted its customers of a total system collapse, causing a blackout in the entire Southeast. EEDC in a statement issued by its Head of Corporate Communications, Emeka Eze, said the incident occurred at about 2 am on Monday. The company, however, assured residents of the region that efforts are being put in place to ensure that normalcy is restored soon. The statement reads, “This resulted in the loss of supply to all our interface TCN stations. Consequently, we were unable to provide service to our customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States. “However, the situation is gradually being resolved as we received supplies at Awada TCN station, Onitsha, at 7:30 am. “We are in constant communication with the relevant authorities awaiting full restoration of supply by the National Control Centre, NCC, Oshogbo”.
