Sokoto (Precise Post) – Former Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, has officially resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to focus on a new initiative aimed at empowering northern youth. Bafarawa’s resignation letter, dated 8 January 2025, was received by the PDP national office on 13 January 2025.
In his letter, Bafarawa cited his desire to avoid a conflict of interest between his leadership of the Northern Star Youth Empowerment Initiative (NSYEI), which he co-founded in late 2024, and his membership in the PDP. He stated that his priority would now be to promote youth entrepreneurship and self-reliance through the initiative.
“I will now focus my attention on creating awareness for youth entrepreneurship and empowerment initiatives aimed at making them self-productive, reducing redundancy, and fostering self-reliance,” Bafarawa explained.
While bidding farewell to the party, Bafarawa extended his best wishes to the PDP and expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to contribute to its development. He also acknowledged his previous support for Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal’s 2019 re-election campaign, following his break from his former political mentor, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wammako.
Precise Post recalls that the resignation marks a significant shift for Bafarawa, a prominent figure in the PDP, as he turns his attention to advancing the causes of northern Nigerian youth.
