MAKURDI – The Benue Government says it needs more Civil Protection Guard (CPG) personnel to tackle the security challenges bedevilling the state, especially in the Ado Local Government Area.
Mr Joseph Har, Special Adviser to the Governor on Security and Internal Affairs, said in a statement signed by his media aide, Mr Mfa Igirgi, on Sunday in Makurdi.
Har commended the CPG personnel for professional conduct but added that their number in Ado was grossly inadequate to contain the menace.
The special adviser said that since Ado LG shared boundaries with Ebonyi and Kogi states, the operational dynamics of criminals within the area were more complex.
According to him, the situation necessitated the government to constantly retrain the security personnel in the area to match their new tactics.
He emphasised the need to recruit more personnel, as the current number is inadequate for such a terrain.
Har further appreciated the efforts of the Ezza Ezekuna People’s Patriotic Congress (EEPPC) and encouraged them and others to continue to support security initiatives.
The special adviser described security as a collective responsibility and should not be left for the government alone. (NAN)
